| The BlackBerry Storm Should Launch on Verizon in November | | If you have been wondering when you will finally be able to get your hands on the BlackBerry Storm / Thunder, sources at BGR claim that it has just gone into technical acceptance and it has been delayed internally while the kinks are worked out. All-in-all we are looking at around 6-8 weeks here to get everything wrapped up, which should put a release sometime in November. This information is not a guarantee, but I'm sure they are dedicated to shipping before Christmas no matter what the circumstances. [BGR] |

| Opera 9.6 beta: Now with RSS feed previews low bandwidth email mode | Filed under: Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Freeware, Beta, Browsers
Opera has released a public beta of version 9.6 of the company's web browser. The update adds a few new features and a handful of bug fixes. Some of the updates might be easy to miss, but Opera wisely included a "to do list" for anyone running Opera 9.6 beta 1 for the first time. Some of the items on the list are features that have been around for a release or two, but all are things that make Opera stand out from the crowd.
For example, you can create a custom search engine by clicking on any search field. If you right-click on the Download Squad search box, for example, you can add our search box to your browser's drop down search list in a matter of seconds.
There's also a new feed preview feature that shows you the contents of an RSS feed before you susbcribe. Just click the orange RSS icon in the location bar when visiting any site with a feed. Opera has also added a low bandwidth mode to the integrated email client. If you have a POP account, Opera will only fetch the first 100 lines of a message unless you specifically request the full message. For IMAP accounts, no attachments will be downloaded without a special request.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

| Altec Lansing rolls out new look, speakers aplenty | Filed under: Home Entertainment, Portable Audio
Altec Lansing sure came out fighting today, with it not only debuting a brand new logo, but a bundle of new speakers and iPod docks that sport the new branding. The most stand-out, by far, are the Expressionist Bass speakers pictured above, which are a full ten inches high and include built-in 4-inch subwoofers and two 1.5-inch drivers apiece. Look for them to set you back $130 when they're released next month in both black and white versions. On the slightly less intimidating front, Altec Lansing has the $40 Orbit MP3 iM237 single-speaker unit, which runs on three AAA batteries, and a pair of new inMotion iPod speaker systems: the inMotion Moondance GLOW and the inMotion MAX, the former of which even includes a special "snooze remote." Look for those to run you $200 and $180, respectively -- pics after the break.
