| AT&T decides some employees shouldn't see the future, changes mind | Filed under: ATT
Remember, carriers: you can't stop leaks, nor can you hope to contain them, and therefore any effort you put into dealing with them should be used to spin 'em to your advantage. That's a simple reality that sites like the very one you're presently reading have proven time and time again over the years. Alas, AT&T suddenly (and briefly) decided that most -- but not all -- of its employees shouldn't be clued into what's coming down the pike, blocking Boy Genius Report from its intranet for all but senior-level folks who presumably want to see what sort of scoops du jour have made their way into the public domain. That's really awesome, guys; good plan, because your sales force obviously has no other way to reach the internet, Boy Genius Report's scoops are never reposted elsewhere on unblocked sites, and clearly, it's in the best interest of the company for them to be as uninformed about your roadmap (and those of your competitors) as possible. Fortunately, it seems the decision was reversed almost as quickly as it was made to start with, so no harm, no foul. We guess.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

| Britney Spears Might Get An Emmy Nomination |
Britney Spears is one of 41 actresses included on the official ballot released by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to its voting members. That means that Brit has a chance of being nominated for her guest appearances on How I Met Your Mother for an Emmy this year!
I know. Calm down. An Emmy might mean that Britney's back on track. If by some chance it helps inspire her to really get on the straight and narrow path, there will still be plenty of news for you consume about her wild and crazy days.
Lynne Spears is coming to the rescue! Her tell-all memoir is finally going to be released this coming September. The book was originally going to be released on Mother's Day this year but was postponed when Jamie Lynn got knocked up.
Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World is going to be the story of the hot mess from the inside. I love it! It's going to be so much better than that crap Justin Timberlake's mom wrote!

More photos of Britney Spears are after the jump.

| Web 2.0: Don’t call it that! | Describing a company or concept as “Web 2.0″ is so, last half-decade. Nevermind that most people still haven’t heard the phrase. If you don’t believe me, go ahead and poll your office or family: unless you’re not allowed out of the IT dungeon or your family all work as tech-bloggers, my guess is that [...] |

Kirsten Dunst, who checked herself into rehab last week, is a real lush and her split with Jake Gyllenhaal is supposedly to blame. Why a relationship that might as well have happened four hundred years is to blame is beyond me, but hey, someone has to be blamed, so fuck him. According to US,

Kirsten Dunst, who checked herself into rehab last week, is a real lush and her split with Jake Gyllenhaal is supposedly to blame. Why a relationship that might as well have happened four hundred years is to blame is beyond me, but hey, someone has to be blamed, so fuck him. According to US,
Whenever the cast and crew were out, she was the center of the group – doing shots and encouraging everyone to drink,” a source on her upcoming movie How to Lose Friends & Alienate People told Us. “There was no such thing as ‘just the one’ for her.”
I fail to see the problem here. A girl who is encouraging people to drink? That’s not depression, that’s an easy in. If only there were more girls like that I wouldn’t be a 25 year-old virgin living vicariously through celebrity sex lives on a website where nip slips are the number one priority. I’d instead be at the local bar trying to scam some free shots from Kirsten.

D. Power and Associates 2008 Wireless Customer Care Performance Study, edging out T-Mobile USA which has historically held the number one spot.

The study asked 11,000 respondents questions about three customer care areas: calling customer service, going to a retail store for service and service via the internet. Verizon Wireless impressed many respondents by resolving their concerns in a single contact.
The number one complaint among customers dealing with customer service was the amount of time spent on hold, which did climb year over year 34% to 4.4 minutes. On the flip side, 49% of customers called in for help, compared to 47% last year, which J. D. Power attributes to the growing complexity of the handsets.
Most customers, 75%, reached out for help over the phone and most others went to a retail store. Only a small number attempted to resolve their problem via email, which is what the carriers are hoping we do.
Verizon received a score of 103, with Alltel coming in a close second at 102 and T-Mobile rounding out the third spot at 100. AT&T once again delivered disappointing customer service, coming in at 96, while Sprint Nextel was the only carrier to come in below the industry average at 79.

| Quick Browser News | Sometimes browser vendors are appallingly insensitive. Despite my clear announcement that I’d be on holiday for two weeks, all four vendors saw fit to release major updates or important news items exactly in that period. Now I have to scramble to keep up with all the news, and the worst part is that I don’t really have any time until after An Event Apart Boston.
So this entry is mainly meant as a quick summary for myself. Without it I’d probably remember less than half of these important developments when I’ll restart my testing in a month or so.

Fring has a thing for Nokia as of late, it seems. It wasn’t too long ago that they added N810 support; then two days ago, they added support for the Nokia E71. Now they’ve gone and added the Nokia E66 to the list. I’d point out that there are other handsets Fring can be adding support for, but it seems like they’ve already got most of them covered.
If you’re looking for a way to Skype, MSN, ICQ, Google Talk, SIP, Twitter, AIM or Yahoo IM on your E66, head over to Fring’s download page.

| Heathrow Shoe Scanning Absurdity | Heathrow is continuing with secondary screening in Terminal 3, which I think
started several months ago. It serves no real security purpose that I can see,
since you can easily bypass it.
First you've got your regular security -- shoes off, plastic bag for your
toiletries, laptop out, you know the drill. Made it? Then you discover that
passports are being checked, something the UK had stopped doing years ago.
The real twist is when you get past passport control. There, people are lined
up to go through yet another screening process, just for their shoes. Except two
trips ago, I noticed that on either side of the screening, people were allowed
to freely pass -- as I quickly decided to do when flying out last week.
