| Prosser, Revisited | A friend, seeing my panorama pictures yesterday, said I could have done a much better job using Photoshop CS3. He offered to redo one of my panoramas to show me how much better Photoshop was at blending the exposures of the individual images. I have to agree, it definitely looks better. The resulting picture doesn't have any of the banding or abrupt transitions seen in my original panoramas. Time, perhaps, to grab a copy of CS3. The only question is whether it's worth spending $1000 on.

| Verizon tops T-Mobile in J.D. Power customer care survey, again | Filed under: Alltel, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Misc T-Mobile may have once been able to bank on J.D. Power's customer care survey to bolster its bag of bragging rights, but it looks like that's no longer the case, as Verizon has now finally edged it out, following a similar shift in J.D. Power's retail sales satisfaction survey last year. Not only that, T-Mobile actually fell to third place, behind Verizon's merger-mate Alltel. There isn't much of a spread between the top-ranked companies, however, with Verizon snagging a score of 103, Alltel scoring 102, and T-Mobile garnering a respectable 100. Only Sprint Nextel, which got a lowly 79, scored below the industry average. Among the other tidbits to be found in the survey, which included more than 11,000 respondents, is the fact that customers spent an average of 4.4 minutes on hold with customer service, a jump of 34% from the previous survey, while 49% of all wireless customers said they called in for help at least once, a minor uptick from the 47% reported last time around. That, J.D. Power says, is at least partly due to the "increasingly complex" wireless phones and services available nowadays.Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

| You may be a Taliban if.... | clipped by: RobbieV clipper's remarks: Move over Jeff Foxworthy.
US troops in Afghanistan prove they've retained their sense of humor with the following,
"YOU MAY BE A TALIBAN IF......"
1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to beer.
2. You own a $3,000 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can't afford shoes.
3. You have more wives than teeth.
4. You wipe your butt with your bare left hand, but consider bacon "unclean."
5. You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide.
6. You can't think of anyone you HAVEN'T declared Jihad against.
7. You consider television dangerous, but routinely carry explosives in your clothing.
8. You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs.
9. You have ever uttered the phrase, "I love what you've done with your cave."
10. You have nothing against women and think every man should own at least one.
11. You bathe at least monthly whether necessary or not.
12. You have ever had a crush on your neighbor's goat.

| Hello World | Welcome to this new blog.
All my old stuff has been saved and it continues to be available at the old urls (well... at least this is what I'm trying to do).
But from this post on I'm continuing with a new tool, a new template and hopefully some new ideas.
I wonder if there's still anybody out there.

| Kodak EasyShare C875 Digital Camera | Every Thursday night is Bingo Night at my local dive bar. The prize for hitting five in a row? Free drink tickets. And a good round can mean endless photo ops for me and my crew. As excited as I was to start capturing the, uh, memories, I was a little disappointed by this camera's bulk. At just over 6 ounces and 1.4 inches thick, there's no squeezing it into a back pocket. But 8-megapixel resolution, combined with a sharp 5X optical zoom, guaranteed that every celebratory shot of Jameson was captured. Reliving the hilarity the morning (or afternoon) after was a snap. I just hooked the cam to my computer via the included USB cable and transferred the images with the push of a button. Next Thursday, I'll probably opt to leave this beefy cam at home, but I'll cherish those intoxicating images forever. -- Jenna Wortham [RATING: 7/10] [RETAIL: $200] [ kodak.com ]

| IM+ (iPhone chat app) |
Better Elevation: “IM+ doesn’t appear to be doing any proxying, instead connecting you directly to the server. This means that when you close the app, your connection is terminated, but the upshot is that none of your login credentials or private conversations are being stored on someone else’s servers.”
Connecting directly to the server is probably a good thing for folks who use chat at work.
