Google Code Search - Only for geeks?
Google launched code search (refer title of this post) for the software developer community.

From this CNET news post, "Google expects that the search engine will be used primarily as a learning tool to help students and serious programmers, rather than a way to find and copy another person's code."

I had a first look at it and feel its a bit geeky. Although it supports both regular expressions and keyword search, I found keyword search not satisfactory and for a student/beginner using regular expressions may be a bit difficult. And for the experienced developers, they may not be too patient to learn the regex of Google code search. My view :)

Lets hope to see more intelligence from Google code search in the coming days.

My preference as at now still lies with koders as it is simpler to use and the results are also quite near to what you generally expect.

Dr. Pic: A no-Flash online image editor

DrPic
There are plenty of web-based image editors out there. And while I love me some Picnik, Fotoflexer, or Splashup action, there's one thing that Dr. Pic can do that none of the other online image editors do: Operate on a computer that doesn't have Flash installed.

That's because Dr. Pic is built using nothing but AJAX. While you probably won't have much luck using the service with Internet Explorer 5, any modern web browser should be able to handle the basic image editing tools Dr. Pic provides. You can resize or crop images and add a handful of effects. For example you can blur, sharpen, or add text to an image.

You can export the result as a JPG, BMP, GIF, or PNG file.

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

Impressive. One of this video watcher a "live book" about Armstrong. His message: ------------------------------------- Hi David, Sorry for taking so long to reply. I'm not on that video nor was I there. I'm a life-long Louis Armstrong nut so I know when he did everything. There are two books that I get my information about videos from, "All Of Me-The Complete Discography of Louis Armstrong" by Jos Willems & "Louis Armstrong On The Screen" by Dr. Klaus Stratemann. The Louis clip you posted is from the first of two BBC-TV shows. Each show was 45 minutes & they were taped on the same day, July 2, 1968. Aside from Louis the rest of the band is Tyree Glenn-trombone, Joe Muranyi-clarinet, Marty Napoleon-piano, Buddy Catlett-bass & Danny Barcelona-drums. Louis died three years later, on July 6, 1971. He was only on the road full time for another two months after this clip. By mid September of 1968 he was seriously ill in the hospital & was out of commisiion for most of 1969. I hope that's enough information for you. Best wishes, Phil ------------------------------ Phil, I am very been thankful by the information. Thank you so much.

The field of mobile marketing startups continued to winnow as Atlanta’s Air2Web and Germany’s MindMatics agreed to merge.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Air2Web launched years ago as a wireless messaging and technology firm, but has morphed into a firm that executes mobile marketing campaigns and builds wireless Web sites for brands including The Weather Channel, Procter & Gamble and others. The company’s backers include The Carlyle Group, Jupiter Ventures and Vantage Point Venture Partners.

MindMatics has gained traction in Europe delivering promotional and marketing applications with partners such as Unilever, T-Mobile, Sony Ericsson, Budweiser and McDonald’s. Investors in the Munich-based firm include T-Mobile Venture Fund, Tempo Capital and Holtzbrinck Ventures.

The deal follows a flurry of recent M&A activity in the mobile marketing space. AOL L.L.C. was one of the first into the fray with the May acquisition of Third Screen Media; since then, Nokia Corp. has agreed to acquire Enpocket, Yahoo Inc. pocketed Munich’s Actionality, Microsoft Corp. snapped up France’s ScreenTonic and content provider Buongiorno S.p.A. has made several smaller acquisitions.

Air2Web and MindMatics claim the merger will result in “the world’s largest, independent, pure-play mobile marketing agency.” Ingo Lippert, MindMatics’ CEO, will serve as managing director of European business for the combined company, which apparently will do business under Air2Web’s brand.

“Mobile marketing is evolving and, in turn, creating remarkable value and opportunity for vendors, marketers and consumers alike,” Lippert said. “Together we are very focused on meeting changing market needs and consumer demand, and are well-positioned to leverage those resources for the benefit of our customers worldwide.”

Get your name out there

your story Whether you’re looking for a job, thinking about your next career move or content with where you’re at, you should always be thinking about how to demonstrate your expertise and position yourself in the industry.

What do I mean by this? Think about technical conferences, online blogs, RSS feeds you subscribe to. When you want to stay informed and learn more in your specific industry, you turn to these sources. More than likely there are specific names that you would immediately associate with if you heard them... how about Danny Sullivan or Joel Spolsky or Robert Scoble?

Why am I mentioning this? These are great ways to get your name out there and become an expert in a specific field. At Microsoft, we hire people who apply to our jobs, but we also have recruiters who look for and contact people who haven’t applied yet. After all, there might be a perfect job out there for the perfect person who just doesn’t know it yet.

Our recruiters will search the internet for blogs, forums, conferences, etc. It’s not about a resume but rather looking for the people who specialize in the field. I would recommend that if you want to leverage your expertise to supplement your “career brand” online, you should include your email address when you post so potential employers have a way of contacting you.

Being visible also is a great way for hiring managers to get to know you as well. They attend the conferences and read forums too and this is a great chance to network with them. So take a few minutes each day and write a blog post (be sure to reference other post or articles) or answer a question on a forum. Whatever you do, be sure it’s intellectual and thought-provoking so other readers will then sign up to your RSS feeds.
